Product review – instant nail polish remover

Are you struggling to get your nail polish of? Try an instant nail polish remover!

Begin March I bought the magic Nail Polish Remover from Bourjois. And while I was in New York I tried the Instant Nail Polish Remover from the Sephora Collection at Sephora.

Both are products to fastly remove your nail polish. They both make use of a sponge drenched in nail polish remover. You have to put your finger in the bottle, and twist the bottle a few times and the nail polish comes right of. Even the most stubborn nail polishes are gone in a few minutes!

The one from Bourjois says it only takes one second for each finger. But I think that’s a bit overstated. It takes a bit longer than one second, but it sure is a lot faster than with cotton balls and regular polish remover. It takes me around 3-5minutes to get my nail polish of, depending on the kind of polish (glitter takes a little bit longer). Another advantage of the Bourjois one, is that it doesn’t have that typical polish remover smell. It has a red fruit and vanilla fragrance. And last but not least, it doesn’t dry out your nails/skin like regular polish remover does. It is a little bit oily, so it nourishes it.
(Bourjois magic nail polish remover – around 7,99€, available at Kruidvat, Di and Ici Paris Xl)

The one from Sephora is based on the same concept. I only tried it once, but I was satisfied over it’s use.
(Sephora instant nail polish remover – 9,50$, available at Sephora)

Stay tuned for more product reviews!

Food and Drinks Ghent

When visiting Ghent, there are a few places for food and drinks I like to go too. You should definitely try them out when your in Ghent!

There are 3 categories, and in every category I will address 2 places.

The first category is sweets. Because, admit… who doesn’t like sweets?

Moochie
Klein Turkije 14
A new concept in Belgium, but very known for Americans. It’s the place to be if you want a frozen yogurt. It is a tasty and healthy snack because it has no fat and it doesn’t contain a lot of sugar. It’s a healthier version of an ice cream. In the winter they also sell american style pancakes and waffles with yogurt. When you want to get a froyo for yourself, you first choose what size you want, then you select the flavor of your froyo, and last you choose your toppings! Et voila, time to enjoy your fabulous frozen yogurt! 🙂

At the moment, they can be found in Ghent, Klein Turkije 14. But they are opening a second store in Antwerp, Eiermarkt 9, the end of april.

For more info check www.moochie.bemoochiemoochie 2

Julie’s
Kraanlei 13
Moving over to some other sweets, there’s julie’s. julie’s serves delicious cupcakes, pies, brownies in a tea-room cupcake setting. You can choose to eat them in, or you can take them to go.
They are also ideal as a gift. I would be really happy if I got one of those 🙂

For more info check www.julieshouse.bejulies

The second category is lunch/dinner. Because everyone needs some food now and then.

De Kastart
Onderbergen 42
De Kastart is known by many students, and is famous for it’s spaghetti Kastart. They make the best spaghetti I have ever tasted. Well, at least their spaghetti Kastart, because I haven’t tried anything else. This spaghetti is like a bolognese, but it is more of a creamier sauce. The prices are very good for the amount/quality you get, that’s also why a lot of students go there. Another interesting fact is that they serve their spaghetti’s in different sizes, so depending how hungry you are, you can choose the size.

For more info check www.dekastart.comde kastartde kastart 2

‘t Oud Clooster
Zwartezusterstraat 5
Not far from De Kastart you also find ‘t Oud Clooster. It’s kind of like a brown pub, except for the pub it’s a restaurant. It’s not a fancy restaurant, it’s just a regular one. The interior is equipped with some religious stuff, hence the reference to the name ‘t Oud Clooster. It’s a very small restaurant, but cosy, and the food is delicious. There’s nothing fancy on the menu, and it’s a rather small menu. But this is because they go for quality in stead of quantity in their choice of dishes. And as a bonus, it’s very budget friendly. Be sure to try it out if your in the neighborhood and you like a different setting.
Closed on monday and sunday. Open from 18:00 till ..

Amadeus
Plotersgracht 8/10 or Gouden Leeuwplein 7
Another place for good food for a low price in a special setting. amadeus is known for its ribs. And it’s an all you can eat kind of concept. You get one piece of ribs, and when they are (almost) finished, you get another piece. Of course they also serve some other things for those who don’t like ribs.

For more info check www.amadeusspareribrestaurant.beamadeus

And the last category is drinks. Because from al that walking around, you get thirsty.

Jigger’s cocktails
Oudburg 16
A fun place to go for a pre- or after-dinner drink. The ideal place for a cocktail. It’s set in a 1930s speakeasy style with some Japanese accents. Another interesting fact is that they change their menu weekly, so you are able to try something new every week. Because of it’s great service it’s well known and frequently visited, so it could be interesting to make a reservation.

For more info check http://www.jiggers.be/jiggers

Café Théâtre
Schouwburgstraat 5
If you want to have your drink in a more classy setting, you should go to Café Théâtre. It’s located in the ‘Opera House of Ghent’. Their bar is open daily from 10am. So you can go here any time of the day, from a stop-over while shopping to a pre-party drink. They also have a restaurant area where you can eat some delicious food.

For more info check http://www.cafetheatre.be/cafe theatre

If you are in Ghent, go and try some out. I hope you enjoy it!

NY beauty haul

While I was in New York, I shopped a “little”. And off course, beauty products were not excluded! I bought some products I already knew and had tried, but I wanted to try out some new stuff I heard about on Youtube.

One of the things I bought are nail polishes. 2 are from OPI and 3 from Essie. The main reason I bought nail polish is because it is much cheaper in the US! And off course, you can’t have enough nail polishes 😉
The first one from OPI is called ‘Yoga-ta get this blue’, this is a metallic blue color. And the second one is called ‘A butterfly moment’ (mariah carey collection) this is a shimmery dusty rose kind of color. From Essie I bought a bright pink color called ‘Off the shoulder’, a blue/teal color called ‘Where’s my chauffeur?’ and a peach/orange color called ‘Haute as hello’. (Prices vary from 6-9$ in the US, and 14-15€ in Belgium. Essie is also sold in Kruidvat for 11€)

20130416-111021.jpg

Over to Mascara. I bought 2 mascaras, one from Dior, which I always buy. It’s the Diorshow Iconic in the color 090 Black. It’ supposed to give length and volume to your lashes and it has a bristle to give you a lash-by-lash separation. Personally I love using this mascara, it’s a bit more expensive (around 28.5$ in the US, and around 30€ in Belgium), but I think it’s worth it. The second one I bought is the Maybelline The Rocket mascara. I wanted to try this one because I heard a lot of beauty gurus on Youtube talking about it. I used it for a good 3 weeks now, and I love it! It also has a special bristle, which makes it easy to separate your lashes. It gives volume to your lashes. And what’s interesting with the summer in sight, is that they also have it in a waterproof version. I think it does what it promises, and that for a very good price! (7-9$ in the US, and around 14€ in Belgium).

20130416-111049.jpg

Next I wanted to try some lip products. One of them is the EOS (smooth sphere) lip balm. Mine is in summer fruit. The packaging of it is so cute. It is easy to put on, and it smells great. It’s not to greasy, like some other lip balms are. And another interesting aspect is it stays on for quite some time. You do need to re-apply it after a few hours, but thats the case with most lip balms in my opinion. I’m not sure if you can find this product in Belgium. (Around 3-4$ in the US, ? Belgium).
Some other lip products I got were the Revlon colorburst lip butters. Also another product Youtubers were talking about, so I wanted to try these. I got ‘090 sweet tart’ and ‘025 peach parfait’. The first one is a brighter pink/rose one, the second is more of a darker peach color. I have to say that the pink one gives more color on my lips, the peach one gives not much color on me. The lip butters are a combination of lipstick and a lip gloss. Some of them are really pigmented and give a lot of color like lipsticks do. On the other hand they also moisturize a bit and some of them look more glossy. (Prices are around 7-8$ in the US, in Belgium they are around 12-13€ and they can be found at some Inno Gallerias, Planet Perfum).

20130416-111057.jpg

Next are some eye shadows. I got a Wet n wild trio and an Inglot freedom palette. Both brands are not for sale in Belgium, so I was very curious to try them, because again, I heard about it on Youtube. I like to keep my make-up quite neutral, therefor I chose more neutral colors. The Wet n wild trio is in the shade ‘380B Walking on Eggshells’. I have to say that these shadows are quite pigmented and are very good quality for the low price (around 3$ in the US). The palette is devided into 3 parts and each says where the color should go, so one is a highlight for the browbone, the second one is a darker color for the crease, and the third one is a color for the eyelid.
Another palette I got is the one from Inglot. I used their freedom system to make my own palette. You can choose from different sizes of palettes, and you can fill them up with the colors you like. The palette works with magnets, so your pans don’t fall out. I got the one where you can put 5 square colors in (11$ in the US). These eye shadows are very pigmented, so they last a long time. It’s a bit more expensive the first time you buy it, because you also need to buy the palette. But once you get that, the colors are only 6$ a pan (in the US), with the advantage you can choose your own colors.
(Inglot does have a website in the Netherlands: http://www.inglotcosmetics.nl/

20130416-111109.jpg

The next three products I also saw on Youtube, surprise… surprise.
The first one is the Covergirl & Olay Simply ageless eye concealer. It’s like the name says, an eye concealer to cover up the dark circles under your eyes. Mine is in the color 210 light. I like the consistency of it because it’s a concealer, but it also has some moisturizer in it, so it doesn’t dry out your skin. (Around 12-13$ in the US, brand not sold in Belgium).
The second one is the Benefit boxed powder in Coralista. It’s a coral blush powder. The packaging of this one is really pretty and also the coral color is. It comes in a box with an integrated mirror on the inside and a brush. (28$ in the US, in Belgium it’s 32€ and it’s being sold in Inno Galeria Antwerp).
The third product is the Rimmel Stay matte long lasting pressed powder. This is a powder to set your make-up after you have put on your foundation. And it helps to keep the shine away for people who have a more oily skin. Mine is in 001 transparent. This is because I wanted it to look natural. (Around 5-6$ in the US, around 10€ in Belgium).

20130416-111103.jpg
The last thing I bought is the 217 blending brush from Mac. Mac brushes are kind of expensive (23$ in the US, 22€ in Belgium), but they are really good quality brushes.

So, that are the beauty products I bought on my trip to NY.

Stay tuned for more of my NY trip updates and a fashion haul!

New York 2013 (day 2)

Monday the 18th of March was our first full day in New York. First we went for breakfast at le pain quotidien. After that we went out to Bryant Park wich was right across the street from le pain quotidien. Here we met a very friendly New Yorker, who welcomed us in NY. We had a lovely talk and after that we continued our tour to the New York Public Library. This library is so beautiful! I don’t think we have one so beautiful in Belgium. We posed for a few pictures, and then we went on to Grand Central Station. Crand Central celebrates its 100 years this year. Just like the library, the station is so beautiful. With all the marble and the ceiling. But, I do have to say that our station in Antwerp is very pretty as well. After seeing all these sites, it was time for a “little bit” of shopping. So we went to some shops, and to Bloomingdales because we were in the neighborhood. It started snowing a little when we got into Bloomingdales, and it was still snowing when we left there. We hoped it would have stopped snowing by then. We got into the metro and towards our hotel, so we could change our outfit and go to dinner. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe for our first real dinner in the city. We all had their Legendary Burger! Jummy! 🙂 After our dinner we went for a little bit more shopping in Times Square, since we were there anyways.

And that was our adventure on the second day of our trip to NY!
Stay tuned for some more!

New York 2013 (Preparing + Day 1)

Hey everyone!

Here is my New York story.

After a little bit of searching for a good flight and hotel, me and 2 friends decided to go to The city that never sleeps -> New York.

For my friends it was the first time, I already went 3 times before. My first time was a school trip in 2009, we stayed at Sohotel in lower Manhattan. The second time I went with my aunt in 2011, we had a great deal on our hotel, and we stayed at The Muse (Times Square area). And last year I went with my mom, we stayed at Yotel. This time I decided it was time for some friends to meet the city!

The 17th of March seemed so far away, but eventually it was there! 🙂 We flew with Brussels Airlines to JFK where we got a taxi to our hotel. We stayed at Yotel again. It’s a recent hotel, very modern, and it has a good location (near Times Square). And guess who was on our flight… We had someone famous on board, well Belgium famous at least. It was Matthias Schoenearts! For those who don’t know him, you can look him up at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0774386/

When we arrived at the hotel, we unpacked a little, freshened up, and we went out to explore some places. First we went to Times Square, we went into the Disney Store, The M&M shop. After that we were on our way to see Columbus Circle, the Empire Hotel and last the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. There we finished our first day, and went back to our hotel for some sleep.

Stay tuned for more New York!
